Intro to Araldica Barolo Flori –

Araldica Barolo Flori from Piemonte Italy has all the Barolo characteristics of tobacco, leather and violet aromas from the Nebbiolo grape with plump fruit, silky supple texture and along finish. A lovely intro to Barolo.

Full tasting note and wine making –

Barolo Flori has a complex nose of plum, mulberry, ripe strawberry and brown spice with delicate floral and violet notes. The tannins are firm and pleasingly supported with plump fruit and a round silky texture, giving a good lengthy finish. Sixteen of Araldica’s members have vineyards in Barolo, covering thirteen hectares in the communes of La Morra, Barolo and Grinzane. Fermentation that takes place in small tanks ensures good colour and flavour extraction, but avoids over extraction of the abundant Nebbiolo tannins. It was bottled after three years maturation in 50hl Slavonian oak casks that enhance the flavours.

The producer –

Araldica who make this Barbera is Piemonte’s most progressive co-operative, situated in Castel Boglione, in the heart of Barbera d’Asti territory in Piemonte. Here they work with 230 grower members to source quality grapes and many joined the co-operative in the 1950s and have had a long relationship with them. They produce wines from Piemonte’s main DOC / DOCG regions – predominantly Barbera, Gavi and Moscato, but also including Barolo, Barbaresco and Roero Arneis. All aspects of production, from grape selection through to vinification, maturation, blending and bottling are overseen by Araldica’s winemaking team of Claudio Manera, Lella Burdese and Carlo Manera. Production is 12 million bottles annually and the wines are exported to more than 20 countries worldwide.
As Claudio states their aim is “to provide a range that is both understandable and accessible. Quite simply, wine for drinking and enjoying.”
