Barbeito Reserve Boal Madeira is a naturally pure dessert wine with vibrant flavours and is medium-sweet in style, with a little marmalade note, some barley sugar, a touch of crème caramel and the faintest hint of ginger.
The grapes for the Barbeito Reserve Boal were sourced from various quality vineyards from Campana´rio, Estreito da Calheta and Prazeres were used. They were pressed in a continuous press and the arresting of fermentation takes place at the desired degree of sweetness adding alcohol. The Boal aged in French oak casks for over 10 years by the Canteiro method. For this blend we selected wines that are very well balanced wine in sugar and acidity. This wine was naturally aged in casks and bottled ready for drinking. Barbeito Reserve Boal Madeira is cask matured on the island of Madeira without any artificial heating and no caramel is added, ensuring a pure and authentic style.
Vinho Barbeito is one of the most forward-thinking companies on Madeira as well as being one of the youngest, being founded in the 1940’s by Mário Barbeito. When Mário died in 1985, the company was taken forward by his daughter, Dona Manuela de Freitas, whose two sons, Ricardo and Miguel joined the firm in 1991. Today, Ricardo is in day to day charge of Vinhos Barbeito, his mother having retired in the early 1990s, and his brother looking after other family business interests.
The company is now co-owned by a Japanese wine distributor called Kinoshita Shoji. Barbeito was the first Madeira producer to voluntarily switch all production to bottled wines in 1993. A few years ago Ricardo took the decision to eliminate the addition of caramel to the wines. Barbeito are attempting to redefine the popular notion of Madeira to a generally slightly drier, more food-oriented wine. As well as careful selection, long ageing and the absence of caramel, the wines are not de-acidified, so they retain much more freshness and tang than many Madeiras. At this level, Barbeito are leading the way in making complex, fine Madeiras as naturally as possible.

Delivery Charges
Delivery in St Albans is FREE for orders over £85, for orders less than £85 the charge is £5.
Postal delivery of tasting tickets and vouchers is also FREE if this option is chosen.
Our standard national delivery charge is £10 and is FREE for all orders over £250. The standard delivery is next day for all orders placed by 12noon and the following day for all orders received later than that.
Arrangements in case you’re out at the time of delivery
Please leave clear instructions in the special instructions section on the checkout page so the wine can be left in a safe place to suit you. As our delivery service requires a signature then if your wine is not signed for it is left at your risk and losses are not replaceable. If instructions are not left a card will be put through your door asking you to contact the carrier to arrange re-delivery or collection within 2 days.
