Intro to Rustenberg Roussanne  –

Rustenberg Roussane from Stellenbosch in South Africa has full fruit flavours and soft tannins with aromas of peach and apricot fruit and notes of tropical fruits fill out the palate.

Full tasting note and wine making –

Rustenberg is a true pioneer in the production of Roussanne in South Africa, importing the first plant material into the country in the late 1990’s and producing the first single varietal Roussanne in 2004. Each vintage allows the production team to experiment with production methods to constantly craft and understand the variety to produce truly interesting and expressive wines. Roussanne is not overtly fruity but has wonderful minerality, palate weight and texture that is emphasised with careful bottle aging.
Rustenberg Roussane from Stellenbosch in South Africa has full fruit flavours and soft tannins with good aromatics and ideal acidity made 2010 an excellent vintage for Roussanne. The aroma is full of fragrant flinty minerality with peach and apricot fruit characters and complex flavours of green apple evident on the palate. Characters of sweeter pineapple flesh out the mid-palate and give weight to the finish.

The producer –

Recognised globally as one of South Africa’s top five wine estates, Rustenberg is also one of the oldest in the Cape, having been established in 1892. In 1940 the Rustenberg Farm, which sits 6km north of Stellenbosch, was bought by Peter Barlow. The Barlows have been at Rustenberg for over 60 years: the longest period any one family has owned the farm with Simon Barlow taking over the running of the farm in 1987, and Murray, his son, now involved with winemaking and marketing.
Vineyards producing the grapes for Rustenberg wines climb the rich red slopes of the Simonsberg and Helderberg; a range of slopes and aspects allows site-specific plantings that enhance varietal characteristics. With a long and very proud history of producing exceptional wines, Rustenberg’s winemaking style is simple: produce quality wines true to the style of the estate and the brand.

The tropical fruit notes and full soft texture mean this wine goes well with creamy and slightly spicy dishes.
