Intro to Alice Verdeca –
Alice Verdeca from Puglia in Southern Italy is a deliciously light refreshing white wine with citrus notes and more luscious tropical fruits especially on the finish.
Full Tasting Note and wine making –
Alice Verdeca from Puglia is straw yellow in colour and the nose shows aromatic white flowers mixed with citrus notes as well as pear and pineapple tropical fruits. It is dry on the long lasting palate which is fresh, minerally and fruity.
Verdeca is a rare native grape variety and the vines grown here are from fifteen to twenty years old, they are espalier trained vines and harvest takes place in the middle of September yielding around 100 quintals per hectare.
Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled fermentation stainless tanks at 15° C after which it is aged in stainless steel vats for a few months. It does not undergo any oak aging which enables it to retain its innate freshness.
The producer is based in the heel of Italy, Manduria is considered the birth place of the native Primitivo grape, and was officially recognised as such in the 1970s when a DOC was created for the region. However Produttori di Manduria had been making wines for forty years by then, unashamedly proud of their deep affection for Primitivo.
As well as making high quality examples of Puglia’s most famous vinous export, the co-operative is well versed in producing fascinating whites from Fiano and Verdeca. But it is with the poetically titled Elegia that the extraordinary levels of quality come to light. Made from old bush vines up to fifty years old it creates a wine of intense dark berry fruit with wonderful balsamic end notes and excellent balance.

Delivery Charges
Delivery in St Albans is FREE for orders over £85, for orders less than £85 the charge is £5.
Postal delivery of tasting tickets and vouchers is also FREE if this option is chosen.
Our standard national delivery charge is £10 and is FREE for all orders over £250. The standard delivery is next day for all orders placed by 12noon and the following day for all orders received later than that.
Arrangements in case you’re out at the time of delivery
Please leave clear instructions in the special instructions section on the checkout page so the wine can be left in a safe place to suit you. As our delivery service requires a signature then if your wine is not signed for it is left at your risk and losses are not replaceable. If instructions are not left a card will be put through your door asking you to contact the carrier to arrange re-delivery or collection within 2 days.
