Intro Angeline Chardonnay –
Angeline Chardonnay is full of appley fresh fruit notes with a subtle lemon and honey note.
Full tasting note and wine making –
This elegant wine offers aromas of fresh granny smith apple, lemon custard tart and subtle wildflower honey . The body is clean with fresh acidity balancing cream with notes of bananas foster, and a touch of vanilla on the finish.
Although most of the grape-growing areas of California have the potential to produce a decent Chardonnay, only certain regions have the ability to truly showcase how complex of a varietal it can be. Angeline carefully select vineyards from areas such as Santa Barbara County, the Russian River Valley, and the western reaches of Mendocino County in order to promote the full potential of the Chardonnay’s aroma and palate. These coastal regions similarly tend toward uniform daytime temperatures and cool, foggy nights throughout the growing season to help concentrate the flavor as the sugar and acids develop.
As with all of the Angeline wines, the goal with California Chardonnay is to over-deliver. Each individual vineyard is hand-picked, and pressed to stainless steel tanks where it is chilled and settled for two to three days. It is then inoculated with carefully chosen yeast, specifically picked to amplify each region’s distinct terroir. The juice is racked to 30% new French and American oak barrels to fully complete both primary and secondary fermentation, where it will age sur lie for 6 months.
The producer –
At Angeline they are lucky enough to call the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County our home and have the unique opportunity to tap into the bounty of distinct and distinguished appellations throughout California. By working closely with our growers from as far south as Santa Barbara County, to the northern reaches of Mendocino, we are able to cultivate outstanding representations of each varietal and location’s individual and defining traits.
Sustainable growing is a no-brainer and they’ve joined ranks with the Sonoma County Winegrowers Association, and have passed the first third-party sustainability audit!
- solar energy system supplies over 80% of the winery’s power.
- Winery cellar lighting is motion sensitive (lights off in dormant areas), and are continuing to upgrade to LED lighting in all buildings.
- gray water collection pond has been recently upgraded to better treat winery wastewater through aeration and filtration, and much of it is being reused for landscape irrigation. This is particularly important in this time of drought.
- The piping that moves glycol throughout the winery to chill and warm tanks for fermentation and storage has been insulated for efficiency, as well as the tanks themselves to help maintain temperature with minimal energy consumption.
- Our inert Nitrogen is generated on-site which doesn’t require compressed gas deliveries by truck.
- All grape processing pomace (stems, seeds, skins) is recycled into vineyard and landscaping compost.
Born of the elusive idea that everyday wines can exceed expectations, Angeline is a family-owned winery founded by Courtney Benham 30 years ago.
