Full tasting note and wine making –

The name ‘Selkirk’ is in recognition of their Grandfather’s heritage. This Scottish border town was the ancestral home of the Willson family. The 2013 Bremerton Selkirk Shiraz offers distinctive varietal characters of lifted white pepper aroma, plum and raspberry fruit, and a hint of mint. A fruit expressive well-balanced palate structure, soft supple tannins, touches of spice and well integrated oak.
After fermenting in small open top fermenters the wine spent up to 18months in selected new and older fine grain American oak. Parcels were chosen to give the final wine the best balance between varietal fruit character and oak complexity and structure.

The producer –

Two sisters running a winery? Absolutely – and doing a great job of it too, if the many awards and accolades are anything to go by! In fact, the Bremerton winery is now run by Rebecca: winemaker and Lucy: marketing and sales.
Langhorne Creek has a history of viticulture dating back to 1860, producing some of the finest fruit in Australia, which persuaded Craig and Mignonne Willson to settle there in 1985. Little could they have known at the time whether a winemaking career would appeal to either of their young daughters.
Premium wines require premium grapes. Bremerton Wines has planted 290 acres at Langhorne Creek and the predominant varieties grown are Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, with plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho, Chardonnay, Malbec and Petit Verdot.
The winemaking team headed by family winemaker Rebecca Willson who seeks the best possible fruit to craft traditional, full bodied, full flavoured, mouthfilling Langhorne Creek wines. The winery has invested heavily in a premium French & American oak barriques to ensure subtle and complementary oak influences. The winery utilises traditional open top fermenters, made from stainless steel and a purpose built barrel cellar for maturation. New laboratory and tasting facilities are part of the winery.
