Full tasting note and wine making –
Chianti Riserva La Scoperta Uggiano is full of vibrant black fruit aromas with a touch of spice. On the palate the layers of ripe plum, blackcurrant and juicy black cherry balance the lovely spicy, developed flavours. A well-structured and complex wine with ripe tannins and bright acidity on the finish. Six months ageing in large oak casks gives a nicely mature wine with impressive depth of flavour for this price level.
The mainly Sangiovese grapes (plus 10% Canaiolo) are harvested from hillside vineyards, and transported to the winery to be vinified. The grape juice or must undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Pumping over twice a day extracts colour and tannin from the skins and after nearly two weeks skin contact the wine is racked in to large (30-60hl) oak casks for six months to age prior to bottling.
The Producer –
Winemaker Giuseppe Losapio founded Azienda Uggiano in the early 1970s, and steadily developed the estate at San Vincenzo a Torri. It is now one of the leading producers in the Chianti Colli Fiorentini zone in Tuscany. With one hundred hectares of hillside vineyards (in both Colli Fiorentini and around neighbouring Chianti Classico, near San Casciano), Uggiano produces classic and classy Tuscan reds from the region’s principal grape varieties. A core of quality runs through an unfussy, practical and exceptionally well-priced range, from bright entry level Chianti to some impressive Riserva wines. In 2015, the Losapio family sold the company to Uggiano’s young but experienced management team, including commercial manager Giacomo Fossati and Daniele Prosperi, winemaker for the past twelve vintages.

Delivery in St Albans is FREE for orders over £85, for orders less than £85 the charge is £5.
Postal delivery of tasting tickets and vouchers is also FREE if this option is chosen.
Our standard national delivery charge is £10 and is FREE for all orders over £250. The standard delivery is next day for all orders placed by 12noon and the following day for all orders received later than that.
Arrangements in case you’re out at the time of delivery
Please leave clear instructions in the special instructions section on the checkout page so the wine can be left in a safe place to suit you. As our delivery service requires a signature then if your wine is not signed for it is left at your risk and losses are not replaceable. If instructions are not left a card will be put through your door asking you to contact the carrier to arrange re-delivery or collection within 2 days.
