Intro to Dalrymple Pinot Noir –

Dalrymple Pinot Noir from Tasmania Australia has vibrant ripe plum blackberry and raspberry aromas and fine spice notes derived from the gentle grained French oak. On the palate there are sweet ripe fruits and fine tannins that balance the oak on the smooth lingering finish.

Full tasting note and wine making –

Pinot Noir is the bête noire of winemaking; frustratingly fickle to grow and challenging to craft but utterly delicious at its best. This wine is made from a selection of Pinot Noir from our estate together with selected grower vineyards in Tasmania.
The wine has a vibrant ruby colour, with lifted sweet summer plums aroma, hints of cherry jam, Chinese 5 spice and complex subtle savoury notes. It has sweet summer fruits on the palate with nicely structured fresh acidity and silky tannins which in time delivers a savoury complexity typical of these sites. A style that is approachable now although it will reward with careful cellaring for the next 5-8 years.
Whole bunch fermentation took place in selection of small open top fermenters so the fruit from our own vineyards and growers were kept separate. After fermentation and maceration the wines were racked into a mixture of French barriques of which 30% new with the balance 1-3 years old. After malolactic fermentation, the wines were matured for 12 months before blending and bottling.

The producer –

Dalrymple Vineyards was established by Bertel and Anne Sundstrup in 1987. They were visionaries, travelling to France for inspiration and guidance. Situated in the heart of the highly acclaimed Pipers River region of northeast Tasmania, almost equidistant from Launceston, Scottsdale and George Town, the Sundstrups planted their vines on sloping hills that overlook Bass Strait – the wild sea separating Tasmania from the mainland.
When it comes to our wine, there are four stories to be told.

Drink with –

It’s a great wine for any occasion, and goes well with most food styles particularly game, spicy foods and cured meats.
