Intro to Domaine Prieur-Brunet Santenay 1er Cru Maladiere Burgundy –
Domaine Prieur-Brunet Santenay 1er Cru Maladiere is soft and elegant with lingering complex flavours.
Full tasting note and wine making –
The Maladière climat is located mid-slope, between 300 and 320 metres altitude, with our 5ha of vines including some vines older than 50 years. The mix of browner, clay based soils on the western side and the higher limestone content in the east results in well-structured and appealing wines with complex aromas from long oak ageing.
After a complicated start to the growing season, a dry summer with some much needed rainfall in September meant grapes were harvested at a good level of ripeness from 27 September.
Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, after which the wine is aged in casks for 12 months before being bottled.
The Producer –
The most recent addition to the Louis Jadot stable, the original Prieur family estate was established in 1804 in the heart of Santenay by brothers Claude and Jean with the vineyards of the Brunet family in Meursault were combined to make Domaine Prieur-Brunet in 1955 when their descendant Guy Prieur married Elizabeth Brunet.
From the tip of Chablis to the toe of Beaujolais, from regional, village, 1er Cru and Grand Cru wines Louis Jadot produces only Burgundy. The Jadot label has become the reliable stamp of quality and consistency from what can often be a confusing region. Louis Henry Denis Jadot founded the business in 1859. His vision was to build a business with a high quality reputation and a significant vineyard base. This vision remains core to the business today.
pOver time, prestigious acquisitions have included Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Musigny and Gevrey Chambertin Clos St Jacques. Plus the picturesque Santenay Clos de Malte and Premier Cru sites in Puligny Montrachet, Savigny Les Beaune and Corton Grand Cru to name but a few.
Today the business is headed up by Pierre Henry Gagey, following following the tragic death of Louis Auguste Jadot. Pierre Henry is a passionate believer in terroir, allowing the wines to present the very essence of Burgundy.
