Intro to Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc –
Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough New Zealand is a tangy combination of melon, yellow peach and pawpaw with grapefruit zest – this is an intensely aromatic, mouth-filling wine with a refreshingly crisp, flinty finish.
Full tasting note and wine making –
Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough is a vibrant mix of nectarines, yellow peaches and cassis combines with the bright fragrance of lemon zest laced with musky, jasmine-like floral nuances. The palate is packed with ripe stone fruit, melons and mandarin creating a succulent tropical-fruited style with that classic Marlborough zing.
Fruit was sourced from various prime vineyard sites in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys and the central Wairau Plains. Soil types vary and contain high proportions of New Zealand’s ubiquitous greywacke river stones. Spring 2014 in Marlborough saw cooler than average weather, with frost and hail events not uncommon and yields in 2015 are thus much reduced.
The fruit for the Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc was harvested largely by machine during the cool night-time conditions. The juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks with cool, slow fermentation. All individual vineyard batches were left on lees and kept separate until late July, when the blend was assembled. The wine was bottled in mid-August.
The producer –
Greywacke was created in 2009 by Kevin Judd, chief winemaker at Cloudy Bay from its inception for 25 years and instrumental in the international recognition which Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc enjoys now. The name ‘Greywacke’ was adopted by Kevin for his first Marlborough vineyard located in Rapaura in recognition of the high prevalence of rounded greywacke river stones in the soils of the vineyard, a sedimentary rock which is widely found in Marlborough. Kevin Judd is also New Zealand’s finest wine photographer and has recently published a book ‘The Landscape of New Zealand Wine’.

Delivery in St Albans is FREE for orders over £85, for orders less than £85 the charge is £5.
Postal delivery of tasting tickets and vouchers is also FREE if this option is chosen.
Our standard national delivery charge is £10 and is FREE for all orders over £250. The standard delivery is next day for all orders placed by 12noon and the following day for all orders received later than that.
Arrangements in case you’re out at the time of delivery
Please leave clear instructions in the special instructions section on the checkout page so the wine can be left in a safe place to suit you. As our delivery service requires a signature then if your wine is not signed for it is left at your risk and losses are not replaceable. If instructions are not left a card will be put through your door asking you to contact the carrier to arrange re-delivery or collection within 2 days.
