Intro to Iona Solace Syrah –
The Iona Solace from Elgin in South Africa is full of ripe berry fruit and spice and has a full intense palate with balanced tannins and fruit.
Full tasting note and wine making –
Iona Solace has aromas of dark red berry fruit, is full of spice, white pepper and floral notes. On the palate it is supple and intense with fine tannin matched by plenty of fruit. The grapes use in this wine are from a single vineyard site on Brocha soils in the Elgin region and have two different Syrah clones. It has a south facing aspect.
The grapes are hand picked and de-stemmed before crushing. The fermentation is allowed to progress naturally with the skins being punched down into the wines twice a day. Grapes spent 21 days on skin before being pressed and racked into five hundred litre French oak barrels that have been used in previous years.

Iona’s vineyards are located in The Highlands, a unique sub-region of Elgin on the saddle between two peaks, which is virtually exclusive to Iona. The uniquely elegant and mineral driven Sauvignon Blanc grown here in The Highlands is a true benchmark for South Africa and has won Iona many loyal followers from around the world.
Iona is thought to be the coolest vineyard in the Cape, 420m above sea-level, high above the Elgin Valley. An extremely long growing season, harvesting up to 2 months after Stellenbosch, results in diverse, complex flavours and fresh elegant wines. The philosophy at Iona is to make wine that expresses the soils and climate as closely as possible, making use of sustainable farming methods and to maximise the use of natural products in farming and winemaking. Everything is done in-house. From the vineyard to the wine distribution, for owners Andrew and Rozy, Iona is the sole source of their focus, passion and great joy.

Delivery Charges
Delivery in St Albans is FREE for orders over £85, for orders less than £85 the charge is £5.
Postal delivery of tasting tickets and vouchers is also FREE if this option is chosen.
Our standard national delivery charge is £10 and is FREE for all orders over £250. The standard delivery is next day for all orders placed by 12noon and the following day for all orders received later than that.
Arrangements in case you’re out at the time of delivery
Please leave clear instructions in the special instructions section on the checkout page so the wine can be left in a safe place to suit you. As our delivery service requires a signature then if your wine is not signed for it is left at your risk and losses are not replaceable. If instructions are not left a card will be put through your door asking you to contact the carrier to arrange re-delivery or collection within 2 days.
