Intro to Kleine Zalze Cellar Selection Pinotage –
Kleine Zalze Cellar Selection Pinotage from Stellenbosch in South Africa is a fine Pinotage with rich fruity aromas, a silky smooth palate and a mellow Mediterranean-like spicy feel.
Full tasting note and wine making –
Kleine Zalze Cellar Selection Pinotage is a subtle and stylish wine with intense mulberry, plum fruit flavours and integrated oak tannins and will age very well. A great example of what Pinotage can offer when the fruit is top of the bill and subtle oak lending a hand with plum fruit and a mellow Mediterranean-like spicy feel giving the wine a fine tannin structure aging potential.
The grapes were harvested from two blocks from Stellenbosch and 40 year-old bush vine vineyards from the Durbanville region. Fifty percent of the wine was fermented in open epoxy cement tanks and fifty percent was fermented in closed stainless steel tanks. The wines were matured on fine lees in 2nd and 3rd fill barrels for 18 months.
The producer –
Kleine Zalze is a family owned winery situated in the heart of the Cape Winelands. Winemaking has taken place there on a small scale since 1695 but it was in 1996, when Kobus Basson and his family purchased the property, that the modern Kleine Zalze was born. In 1996 the estate’s soils were scientifically mapped, evaluated and replanted according to their specific terroir characteristics and potential. Continuous investment over more than 20 years has seen the winery evolve into one of the most awarded in Stellenbosch.
Kleine Zalze wines are marked by classical structure and complexity matched by a vibrant flavour intensity. Discernibly South African in style, they are refreshing, beautifully balanced and well suited to food. They are made according to traditional methods, with minimal cellar intervention but supported by modern winemaking equipment.
Drink with –
Lamb Moussaka with grilled Mediterranean vegetables, grilled meats, pizza, pasta are all a lovely match to this wine.

Delivery Charges
Delivery in St Albans is FREE for orders over £85, for orders less than £85 the charge is £5.
Postal delivery of tasting tickets and vouchers is also FREE if this option is chosen.
Our standard national delivery charge is £10 and is FREE for all orders over £250. The standard delivery is next day for all orders placed by 12noon and the following day for all orders received later than that.
Arrangements in case you’re out at the time of delivery
Please leave clear instructions in the special instructions section on the checkout page so the wine can be left in a safe place to suit you. As our delivery service requires a signature then if your wine is not signed for it is left at your risk and losses are not replaceable. If instructions are not left a card will be put through your door asking you to contact the carrier to arrange re-delivery or collection within 2 days.
