Intro to La Cuvee Chateau de Combel la Serre Cahors –
La Cuvee Chateau de Combel la Serre Cahors is a delightful wine full of dark ripe Malbec fruit.
Full tasting note and winemaking –
La Cuvee Chateau de Combel la Serre from the Cahors region of southwest France is structured and dark, a bit gamey, screams out for food but still leaves you feeling refreshed. Delicious!
The Malbec grapes used in this wine are from different plots in the village of Cournou, and are thirty five year old vines planted on causse limestone and clay. The wine is aged for one year in old barrels of 225 and 500 litres. No oak is used for fermentation and the wines are not inoculated with yeasts – ambient yeasts used. No malolactic is used so the wine retains its freshness.
The producer –
The Ilberts have been growing vines in Cahors since 1901 and have been bottling their own wines since 2005. The current vignerons Julien and Sophie today farm twenty two hectares on the highest reaches of la causse, an old Occitan word for the region’s limestone plateau. They only work with Malbec grapes and avoid oak influence apart from a minimal extent on some wines.
The vineyard and winery has been certified organic since 2013, Julien and Sophie ’s philosophy is to make wines for drinking, vins de soif with real joie de vivre.

Delivery Charges
Delivery in St Albans is FREE for orders over £85, for orders less than £85 the charge is £5.
Postal delivery of tasting tickets and vouchers is also FREE if this option is chosen.
Our standard national delivery charge is £10 and is FREE for all orders over £250. The standard delivery is next day for all orders placed by 12noon and the following day for all orders received later than that.
Arrangements in case you’re out at the time of delivery
Please leave clear instructions in the special instructions section on the checkout page so the wine can be left in a safe place to suit you. As our delivery service requires a signature then if your wine is not signed for it is left at your risk and losses are not replaceable. If instructions are not left a card will be put through your door asking you to contact the carrier to arrange re-delivery or collection within 2 days.
