Intro to La Lus Albarossa Villa Banfi –
Villa Banfi La Lus from Piemonte is deep dark fruity wine with lovely layers of lingering soft oaky flavours.
Full Tasting Note & Winemaking –
Villa Banfi La Lus from Piemonte is a fresh, fruity and complex wine showing typical flavours of red berries, cherries
and jammy plums. The wood influence is subtle with notes of vanilla and licquorice creating a full-bodied, velvety note with soft, round tannins.
Born from Barbera and Nebbiolo, Albarossa can trace its roots back to 1938. Grown by Banfi in Piedmont, La Lus (The Light) is the highest expression of this innovative varietal. It is a modern wine upholding the traditions of fine Piedmontese wines. The juice is fermented in cool temperature controlled stainless steel tanks after which the wine is transferred to French oak barrels, of which 20% are new barrels, for twelve months maturation.
The producer –
Castello Banfi was founded in 1978 by the Mariani family, Italian-Americans who had been involved in wine importing and distribution since 1919. They saw great potential in this then sleepy Tuscan region and from the start their goal was to establish a point of excellence in Montalcino.
Combining a respect for tradition and the environment with state of the art research and working practices they have helped to transform the region’s wines and established Banfi’s reputation in an impressively short period of time. They produce premium wines in Montalcino and beyond with a profound respect for the land and people from which they come.
The Castello Banfi estate is the largest contiguous vineyard in Europe and includes land in Tuscany and Piedmont. Despite its size the estate is not a mono-culture with one third planted to vines, one third to olive groves, fruit trees and other crops and the remaining third woodland. At the centre of the estate, at 280 metres above sea-level, is the Castello, historically known as Poggio alle Mura, meaning walled hill top, which is now a centre for Banfi wines following extensive restoration by the Mariani family to repair damage sustained during World War Two.

Delivery in St Albans is FREE for orders over £85, for orders less than £85 the charge is £5.
Postal delivery of tasting tickets and vouchers is also FREE if this option is chosen.
Our standard national delivery charge is £10 and is FREE for all orders over £250. The standard delivery is next day for all orders placed by 12noon and the following day for all orders received later than that.
Arrangements in case you’re out at the time of delivery
Please leave clear instructions in the special instructions section on the checkout page so the wine can be left in a safe place to suit you. As our delivery service requires a signature then if your wine is not signed for it is left at your risk and losses are not replaceable. If instructions are not left a card will be put through your door asking you to contact the carrier to arrange re-delivery or collection within 2 days.
