Intro to Langham Estate Rose, England –
Langham Rose is a beautiful salmon pink colour with a rich nose and light refreshing flavour.
Full tasting note and wine making –
Langham Estate Rose is a pale salmon pink colour and has a fine stream of small bubbles with a rich nose of butter pastry, strawberry and fresh red cherry.
The grapes for Langham Estate Rose were picked in October 2014 and gently pressed as whole bunches in a pneumatic press. The first fermentation took place in a combination of stainless steel tanks and used oak barrels. Each year a small batch of Pinot Noir is made as a still red wine and a dash of this wine is added to the blend prior to bottling to achieve a deep red colour and enhance the fruit notes of the finished sparkling wine. After secondary fermentation the wine is left to age on its lees for twenty four months to increase the texture and complexity of the flavour.
The producer –
At the heart of the Langham Estate sits the magnificent Bingham’s Melcombe manor house, Grade I listed and little changed since the reign of Edward VI. Acquired by John Langham in 1980, Bingham’s Melcombe became the centre point for the Langham Agricultural Enterprise, today comprising over 1,000 hectares.
The Langham vineyard was originally established by John Langham on a very small scale. In 2009 John’s son, Justin Langham, decided to develop his father’s rudimental vineyard into a commercial venture, and planted 30 acres of land at their Crawthorne farm.
All the Langham Estate wines are made using grapes from their own estate at their single vineyard in rural Dorset. The Crawthorne vineyard consists of twelve hectares that are panted with the three classic Champagne varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The site was carefully selected for its south facing slope which is composed of the same chalk, clay and flint soils that are found in the Champagne region.
