Intro to Luis Canas La Palacio Rioja –
Luis Canas La Palacio Rioja is a classic quality Rioja from a single vineyard plot and it has an elegant style and depth of flavour with evolved flavours from careful oak aging.
Full tasting note and wine making –
Luis Canas La Palacio Rioja is a field blend of grapes from a single plot in Villabuena located just in front of the cellar. is a lovely dark plum red colour. The nose is full 0f ripe concentrated fruit aromas which have a mineral touch, spice and notes of forest fruit preserve wrapped in tones of butterscotch. The palate is concentrated and buttery, well-balanced with fine tannins and well balanced acidity and it has a long and expressive finish leaving a clear impression of the mineral character of the terroir.
The harvested grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled French oak casks and macerated to extract their full potential. The resulting wine is then passed to French oak barrels where it undergoes malolactic fermentation to give it complexity and aromatic intensity while stabilising its colour. The wine is aged for a total of 15 months in new 500L French oak barrels from a selection of several top French coopers.
The producer –
Jon Cañas (Luis Cañas’ grandson) is the imaginative winemaker behind Bodegas Amaren. Jon has been granted free rein to explore the character of Alavesa’s vineyards, giving us a raw, modern interpretation of Rioja Alavesa. Bodegas Amaren is comprised of some of best and highest altitude vineyards around the villages of Samaniego and Leza, where the soil is poor and gnarly vines, ageing up to and over 100 years old, produces small bunches, perfect for making highly concentrated Rioja wines.
Drink with
This is delicious with red meat, cheeses, or fatty fish. It goes well with lamb dishes, beef steak and grilled blue fish (salmon, etc.).

Delivery Charges
Delivery in St Albans is FREE for orders over £85, for orders less than £85 the charge is £5.
Postal delivery of tasting tickets and vouchers is also FREE if this option is chosen.
Our standard national delivery charge is £10 and is FREE for all orders over £250. The standard delivery is next day for all orders placed by 12noon and the following day for all orders received later than that.
Arrangements in case you’re out at the time of delivery
Please leave clear instructions in the special instructions section on the checkout page so the wine can be left in a safe place to suit you. As our delivery service requires a signature then if your wine is not signed for it is left at your risk and losses are not replaceable. If instructions are not left a card will be put through your door asking you to contact the carrier to arrange re-delivery or collection within 2 days.
