Intro to Luis Canas Rioja Reserva Seleccion de la Familia –
Luis Canas Rioja Reserva Seleccion de la Familia is a reserva wine specially selected to represent the epitome of great Rioja. Dark garnet red in colour with a pronounced bouquet of ripe strawberries and plums. Deep, rich and savoury on the palate showing well integrated tannins, elegant, silky fruit and subtle oak.
Full tasting note and wine making –
At the winery, the individual grapes are sorted based on their weight. Following this selection process, they are de-stemmed and crushed before undergoing fermentation and then maceration in stainless steel tanks for a total of 18 days, obtaining good colour extraction as well as much more complex and tannic wines, suitable for prolonged aging. After its primary fermentation, the wine is placed in barrels where it undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged for 20 months in French and American Oak.
With 350 hectares of outstanding vineyards, split across 870 different plots each of which has its own personality and is categorised and used for different wines according to its characteristics. Vines for the Reserva de la Familia are situated on slopes and terraces of limestone and clay soil, well exposed to the sun, and are at least 45 years old.
The producer –
Bodegas Luis Cañas has been at the heart of Rioja since 1928 though the contemporary story begins in 1970 when Luis Cañas became the first Rioja Alavesa winemaker to bottle his young wine rather than sell it in bulk. Situated in Villabuena, Luis Cañas utilise their knowledge of the local climate, terroir, cultivation methods and a real sense of pride and dedication to create these unique wines; every harvest Luis Cañas, now 86, stands at the head of the selection table keenly ensuring only the best parcels of grapes are used. The end result is wine consistently packed with fruit and wrapped in a silky, oak laced layer of flavour that seems unique to Rioja: truly world class.

Delivery Charges
Delivery in St Albans is FREE for orders over £85, for orders less than £85 the charge is £5.
Postal delivery of tasting tickets and vouchers is also FREE if this option is chosen.
Our standard national delivery charge is £10 and is FREE for all orders over £250. The standard delivery is next day for all orders placed by 12noon and the following day for all orders received later than that.
Arrangements in case you’re out at the time of delivery
Please leave clear instructions in the special instructions section on the checkout page so the wine can be left in a safe place to suit you. As our delivery service requires a signature then if your wine is not signed for it is left at your risk and losses are not replaceable. If instructions are not left a card will be put through your door asking you to contact the carrier to arrange re-delivery or collection within 2 days.
