Intro to Marius Syrah by Chapoutier –
Marius Syrah by Chapoutier is a robust flavoured smooth red wine full of dark berry fruit notes.
Full tasting note and wine making –
Marius Syrah by Chapoutier has powerful, complex, dark, spicy, red berry aromas with a delicate floral touch and on the palate it is powerful, concentrated and structured attack with a tinge of silky tannins.
In order to achieve a balanced and complex vintage, the vineyards they have selected are cultivated on clay and calcareous hillsides. This type of location provides a favourable sun exposure on the hillsides as well as sufficient water reserves in the limestone earth that the vineyards can reach its desired maturity. Furthermore, these vineyards are controlled using the Royat Cordon pruning technique, enabling them to grow quality grapes with that ripen fully and evenly and the rootstocks are adapted to the soils.
It was an extremely hot vintage in the south of France, with rainfall at the end of the season providing much needed freshness to the wine’s flavour by maintaining the natural grape acidity.
The fruit macerates on its skins for ten days at a controlled temperature so that the tannins and the fresh fruit aromas penetrate the juices of the wine without compromising the balance we want to achieve. The pumping of the wine from the vat over the must for extraction is practised as delicately as possible. When we are satisfied with both balances, the grapes are pressed. As soon as the alcoholic fermentation has ended, the wines are racked many times and are left on their fine lees so as to reinforce their complexity which is much appreciated at M. Chapoutier. The two grape varieties are therefore vinified separately. The complexity, the elegance and the gourmet touch of Marius rouge are then revealed by our wine blending know-how.

It was Marius who put the Chapoutier name firmly on the Rhône Valley map in the early 20th century and established its reputation for quality as far afield as America. These wines reflect the warmth of the southern France terroirs in which they are rooted. Expressive, approachable and elegant wines that are created to be shared.

Drink with –
Try with grilled and roasted red meats, pizza, pasta, casseroles, stews, mild creamy cheeses, mature strong cheeses. It is also great when paired with roasted vegetable tart, goat-cheese and thyme cake, tomato tartare or beef carpaccio.

Delivery Charges
Delivery in St Albans is FREE for orders over £85, for orders less than £85 the charge is £5.
Postal delivery of tasting tickets and vouchers is also FREE if this option is chosen.
Our standard national delivery charge is £10 and is FREE for all orders over £250. The standard delivery is next day for all orders placed by 12noon and the following day for all orders received later than that.
Arrangements in case you’re out at the time of delivery
Please leave clear instructions in the special instructions section on the checkout page so the wine can be left in a safe place to suit you. As our delivery service requires a signature then if your wine is not signed for it is left at your risk and losses are not replaceable. If instructions are not left a card will be put through your door asking you to contact the carrier to arrange re-delivery or collection within 2 days.
