Intro to Pra Amarone della Valpolicella Veneto –

Pra Amarone from the Veneto Italy is an Amarone of unusual grace, purity and elegance with sublime aromas and a powerful, complex palate.

Full tasting note and wine making –

The grapes used in the Pra Amarone are Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseletta and they are dried in a fruttaio (drying room) for 2 months. Grapes are macerated and fermented for 15 days in stainless steel vats. This is followed by malolactic fermentation in 1/3 in Allier barriques and the rest in 5hl tonneaux for 3 years.
Pra Amarone is an Amarone of unusual grace, purity and elegance with sublime aromas and a powerful, complex palate. A spicy nose with aromas of wild cherry, plums and dried herbs. The silky, velvety texture and flavours of luscious bitter cherry, dried orange peel, and ripe red fruit are balanced by a complex and long finish, with lingering notes of chocolate ganache. A fine and distinctive style of Amarone capable of further development in bottle.

The producer –

Long renowned as a producer of outstanding white wines, Graziano Prà has more recently taken on the challenge of crafting classic reds from Veneto. A long search brought him to the higher marl slopes of the Valle di Mezzane. Here he found the ideal vineyard setting of La Morandina, in eastern Valpolicella.
Sitting on white soils deriving from chalky rock, ancient clay and marine sand, La Morandina is located on rubble and schist. At around 500 metres above sea level, it enjoys gentle breezes from the Monti Lessini hills. Traditional Veronese grapes used in the production of Amarone (Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta) are grown here. From guyot trellised vines with high-density planting Graziano harvests sparse bunches which then undergo “appasimento” (drying). He produced his first red wine from the Morandina vineyard in 2006 – and the Valpolicella was soon followed by an Amarone.
