Intro to Valenciso Rioja Reserva 10 Anos Despues –
Valenciso Reserva 10 Anos Despues is another exceptional Rioja Reserva from Valenciso – released 10 years after the vintage, following maturation in a combination of concrete and Russian oak.
Full tasting note and wine making –
Valenciso Reserva 10 Anos Despues is full of complex balsamic notes and intense black fruit with fine-grained beautifully polished tannins and incredible freshness.
The best bunches of Tempranillo fruit, with higher acidity, were selected from the best vineyards in Ollauri – at 500m altitude. The wine was fermented and matured in concrete for 5 years, followed by maturation in Russian oak for fifty four months of which 20% was new prior to bottling.
The producer –
Valenciso was established in 1998 as a collaboration between ex Bodegas Palacios’ Luis Valentin and Carmen Enciso. With a wealth of experience in Rioja wine production, they decided to focus on just one style of wine – a classically structured, subtle and elegantly fine Reserva.
Situated in the town of Ollauri, just 4 km from Haro, they are at the north-west limit of Rioja Alta – with vineyards in Ollauri, Briones, Haro, Rodezno and Villalba. At altitudes of 400-600m, the climate here has a strong Atlantic influence, and the wind that blows in the summer evenings cools the grapes to enhance acidity, finesse and aromatic complexity.
From the very beginning Luis and Carmen have had a clear vision. They follow sustainable viticulture, do not use irrigation, and do not fine their wine. Significantly, they use concrete tanks for vinification, a strong statement when across Rioja traditional concrete tanks have been replaced with stainless steel. But they believe this is best in order to craft wines with longevity, and maintain freshness and vibrancy.
It is this quiet determination, integrity and emphasis on quality that have made this small winery one of the most respected by Rioja lovers and wine writers alike. The results speak for themselves.

Delivery Charges
Delivery in St Albans is FREE for orders over £85, for orders less than £85 the charge is £5.
Postal delivery of tasting tickets and vouchers is also FREE if this option is chosen.
Our standard national delivery charge is £10 and is FREE for all orders over £250. The standard delivery is next day for all orders placed by 12noon and the following day for all orders received later than that.
Arrangements in case you’re out at the time of delivery
Please leave clear instructions in the special instructions section on the checkout page so the wine can be left in a safe place to suit you. As our delivery service requires a signature then if your wine is not signed for it is left at your risk and losses are not replaceable. If instructions are not left a card will be put through your door asking you to contact the carrier to arrange re-delivery or collection within 2 days.
