Intro to Viu Manent San Carlos Malbec –
Viu Manent San Carlos Malbec from Colchagua Valley in Chile is an intensely flavoured elegant wine with ripe fruit, spices, rounded tannins and a long velvety note on the palate.
Full tasting note and wine making –
Viu Manent San Carlos Malbec is a limited edition wine and has an intense and elegant nose of forest fruits, blackberries, blackcurrants, spices, along with floral hints and red tobacco. The palate is fresh and has great structure, medium body, and silky tannins with a long deep finish. It is fermented in stainless steel and aged for 16 months in French oak barrels.
Since 1995 the Colchagua Valley is sub-divided into several appellations and Santa Cruz, where San Carlos is located, is the oldest and most established of these with vines of an average 40 years old. San Carlos vineyard is one of the oldest in Chile having been established in the 19th century.
The producer –
Viu Manent was founded in 1935 by Miguel Viu Garcia and his sons Agustin and Miguel Viu Manent. They are one of the longest established producers in the region and own their own vineyards in Colchagua including the Hacienda San Carlos de Cunaco bought in 1966. The estate included 150 hectares of noble, pre-phylloxera vines.
The Colchagua Valley is located in the south of the Rapel Valley in central Chile is 140 kilometres south of Santiago and is one of Chile’s most well-known wine regions particularly for full-bodied red wines. The vineyards benefit from cool seas breezes and sharp diurnal temperature differences which help to retain acidity and freshness which allows the red grapes to develop slowly improving their flavour and colour. Historically vineyards were planted on the gentler slopes but newer plantings are on steeper gradients. Viu Manent’s San Carlos vineyard is located here. Viu Manent wines are made with estate grown grapes from their own properties in the Colchagua Valley and ten percent of the white grapes come from selected Casablanca Valley vineyards, a cool coastal region.

Delivery Charges
Delivery in St Albans is FREE for orders over £85, for orders less than £85 the charge is £5.
Postal delivery of tasting tickets and vouchers is also FREE if this option is chosen.
Our standard national delivery charge is £10 and is FREE for all orders over £250. The standard delivery is next day for all orders placed by 12noon and the following day for all orders received later than that.
Arrangements in case you’re out at the time of delivery
Please leave clear instructions in the special instructions section on the checkout page so the wine can be left in a safe place to suit you. As our delivery service requires a signature then if your wine is not signed for it is left at your risk and losses are not replaceable. If instructions are not left a card will be put through your door asking you to contact the carrier to arrange re-delivery or collection within 2 days.
